Framing generalist and specific questions for research

When a scholar sets out do prepare a dissertation, he has to first decide upon the methodology that he wants to adopt. This decision will be effected by the aim of research and the basic questions that need to be answered. The methodology can be qualitative or quantitative, depending upon the kind of resources available with the researcher.

When the research is quantitative, the questions are framed in general terms and then specified with the samples collected in the data collection stage. The research will be conducted on the basis of the questions which are asked for data collection. So they define the perimeter of the research. The assumption that questions must be stated in general terms has stemmed from the view of logical positivism, according to which causal explanation is seen as involving general laws, with the goal of research being seen as discovery of such laws. The questions can be generalist or particular, depending upon what philosophy is followed by the researcher. Dissertation help services assist the scholars in deciding the type of questions that must be asked.

The sampling approach will differ on the basis of questions asked. In a sample study, a generic question is asked about the population as a whole. This is followed by selection of specific samples from the population for taking particular views. In a case study, which deals with specific questions and specimen, the case is selected first and then the questions are framed to focus on that case. Dissertation writing services will be beneficial for framing an appropriate questionnaire and deriving the best answers that will solve the problems. While both approaches are followed for master’s level research, sampling logic is applied mostly in case of interviews. The selection of interviewees for generalizing the questions and representing the population will be done in a detailed manner.

Qualitative study can be done with questions posed in particular terms. The samples have to be chosen with caution, as they are the representative of the entire population. Dissertation India has PhD statisticians who have handled hundreds of case studies and several dissertations, and are adept in both qualitative and quantitative research work. They can suggest a best fit questionnaire and sample group, as well as the sample size for identification of answers.
